The licence must be a full licence, not a provisional or learner one. We do not require a minimum number of years since the licence was issued, but a driver who passed recently should be honest with themselves about a first drive in Marrakech traffic: start outside rush hours.
Why 21, and why no surcharge
Twenty-one is the age from which our insurer covers every driver on every car of the fleet under the same comprehensive policy, with the same 8,000 MAD excess. Below that age the cover does not exist, which is why no agency in Morocco can legally rent to an 18-year-old, whatever a website shows at the booking stage. Above 21, we see no reason to charge a young driver more than anyone else: the deposit of €800 and the check-out sheet with photos protect the car in the same way at 22 and at 52. International brands reason differently, by statistical risk bands, hence the daily fee below 25 and the categories closed to young drivers.

Insurance and excess for a young driver
The comprehensive insurance included in every rental is the same policy whatever the driver’s age: an excess of 8,000 MAD per claim, 24/7 breakdown assistance, and the rules set out on the insurance page. After an at-fault accident you pay the excess plus one week of rental for the immobilisation of the car; if you are not at fault, the week of immobilisation only; glass breakage is charged at 20 % of its value. There is no young-driver excess and no excess buy-out, because buy-out products do not exist in Morocco for anyone. The €800 deposit guarantees the excess for a 21-year-old exactly as for a 60-year-old, and it comes back in full when the car does.

Students, gap years and groups of friends
Most of our drivers aged 21 to 24 travel in twos or fours: students on a break, friends sharing a riad, couples on a first trip to Morocco. Three things make it work. First, book early for Easter, July and August and the Christmas period, when the Duster goes first; a 30 % deposit holds the car and cancellation is free up to 48 hours before. Second, split the driving between the two most experienced people and put both on the contract; the second driver is free. Third, choose the Logan or the Sandero at €35 if the budget matters: the daily rate is per car, so four people pay under €9 each per day for insurance, 200 km and delivery included. What a young driver should know about the roads
- Speed limits are 60 km/h in towns, 100 on main roads and 120 on motorways; radars stand at town entrances and on the airport road. Fines are paid on the spot against a receipt.
- Police checkpoints are routine: licence and contract at hand, a greeting, under a minute.
- Drive between cities by daylight; country roads are unlit and shared with carts and animals.
- Scooters pass on both sides in Marrakech; check the right mirror before every turn.
- Zero alcohol at the wheel, seat belts for everyone, phone in the cradle.
Second driver
The second driver is free with us and must also be 21 or older, with licence and ID shown at delivery. For a group of friends sharing the driving, name the two most experienced drivers; a third driver is not covered, so decide before the keys are handed over. Both names go on the contract, which is what the police check at the checkpoints described in speed limits, radars and checkpoints.
Seniors: no upper limit
There is no maximum age with us as long as the licence is valid. Some international brands cap rentals at 70 or 75 or add a senior fee; ask before booking elsewhere. For a long stay, retirees spending the winter in Marrakech often take the monthly rental: the Clio 5 at €650 per month, servicing included.
Which licence, at any age
- A full licence as a physical card; licences from the EU, UK, USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia and most countries in Latin characters are accepted for visitors with no international permit.
- Licences in another script (Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Hindi) need an international permit or a certified translation.

First road trip in Morocco: three pieces of advice
- Take the car in the morning, not at night after the flight, and drive out of the city before 8 am or after 10 am.

Booking at 21, step by step
- Send your dates, your delivery point and your age on WhatsApp or through the fleet page; say if a second driver will share the wheel.
- We confirm the car and one total price. A 30 % deposit confirms the booking; cancellation is free up to 48 hours before pick-up.
- At delivery, both drivers show licence and ID, the check-out sheet is filled in with photos, and you pay the balance and the €800 deposit by debit card, credit card or cash.
- At return, same sheet, same photos, deposit back in full if the car comes back as it left.

- Full driving licence, physical card, not a photo on a phone (UK, EU, US, Canadian and most others accepted; no international permit needed). If the licence was issued recently, bring it anyway: we do not require a minimum number of years, only a full licence.
