How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Car in Marrakech? Real Prices vs the “€9 a Day” Ads

Renting a car in Marrakech with Getaround Rent Car costs €35 to €45 per day, everything included: comprehensive insurance, 24/7 assistance, 200 km per day, a second driver, a baby seat and free delivery anywhere in Marrakech or at Menara Airport. The much lower prices you see on comparison sites are real, but they are the price of the bare car. By the time insurance, deposit, airport fee, second driver and fuel policy are added at the desk, the difference has usually disappeared. Here is how to read a car rental price in Marrakech, and what ours includes.

Our prices

The weekly figure is simply 7 times the daily rate; rentals of a week or more get a lower daily rate, ask us for your dates. Nothing is added at pick-up. The only other amounts are the refundable deposit of €800 and, if you want the car delivered or returned in Casablanca, Agadir or Essaouira, €90 per transfer.

What a “€9 a day” price usually leaves out

Comparison sites and airport counters compete on the headline number, so the headline number is stripped of everything that can be sold separately. Before you compare, check each of these lines in the small print:

• Insurance and excess. The cheap rate often carries a basic cover with a very high excess. Reducing it means buying an extra daily “full cover” at the desk, which can cost as much as the rental itself. Ours is comprehensive from the start, with an excess of 8,000 MAD.
• Deposit. A large hold on your credit card, sometimes several thousand euros with the basic cover, released weeks after return. Ours is €800, returned at the end of the rental.
• Airport or out-of-hours fee. Picking up at the airport, at night or on a Sunday is often charged extra. We deliver at Menara Airport at any hour for free.
• Second driver and child seat. Usually paid per day each. Both are free with us.
• Fuel policy. “Full to empty” prepaid tanks are billed above pump price, and unused fuel is not refunded. We hand the car over with fuel and you return it at the same level.
• Mileage. Some contracts limit kilometres and charge each extra one. We include 200 km per day, 1,400 km for a week, enough for a loop to Essaouira, Agadir and back.
• Young driver fee. Applied below 25 by many brands. We rent from 21 without a surcharge.
• Payment method. Many desks require a credit card in the driver’s name; a debit card is refused and the booking is lost with the prepayment. We accept a payment card or cash for the rental and the deposit.

A week in Marrakech, line by line

Take a couple arriving on a night flight, staying a week, driving to Essaouira and the Ourika valley, with one of them as second driver.

With a headline “€9 a day” offer, the same week starts at €63 and then adds, at the desk, the cover reduction, the airport fee, the second driver and often a prepaid tank. Do the sum with the real lines of the offer you are looking at; in our experience the total lands in the same range as ours, with a much larger card hold.

What makes the price go up or down

• Season. Demand peaks at Easter, in July and August, at Christmas and New Year. Book early for those dates; our public prices stay the same but availability does not.
• Duration. A week or more lowers the daily rate; a month costs €650 for the Clio 5.
• Gearbox. Automatic cars are rarer in Morocco. Our automatic Duster is €45 per day.
• One-way. Returning the car in Casablanca, Agadir or Essaouira costs €90; returning it in Marrakech or at the airport costs nothing.

How to book without surprises

1. Send your dates and flight number on WhatsApp, or check availability on the fleet page.
2. You receive one total price. That is the amount you pay.
3. We meet you at the airport or at your address, check the car together with a written sheet and photos, and hand over the keys.
4. At return, we check the car and the fuel together and release the deposit.
