You can rent a car and drive in Morocco with a valid driving licence from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the European Union, Switzerland, Australia and most other countries. No international driving permit is required for a tourist stay, and we hand over cars every week to drivers from all of these countries at Marrakech airport. Below is what each licence needs, the two cases where an international permit helps, and what changes if you move to Morocco.

What to have in the car
- Your driving licence (physical card).
- Your passport or, for EU citizens, the national ID card you entered Morocco with.
- The rental contract.
- The car’s registration, insurance certificate and inspection certificate, which we leave in the glovebox.
Police and gendarmerie checkpoints at the entrance of towns ask for the licence and the contract. Keep them within reach rather than in the boot.
Driving on the right: the UK and Irish adjustment
Morocco drives on the right and overtakes on the left. Our cars are left-hand drive, so the gear lever is in your right hand. Most UK drivers settle in within the first roundabout. Three habits to force at the start: look left first when joining a road, keep to the right lane on the motorway except to overtake, and take roundabouts anticlockwise. If you move to Morocco
A foreign licence is accepted for driving while you are a visitor. Once you become a resident, Moroccan rules generally expect the foreign licence to be exchanged for a Moroccan one after the first year of residence; the exchange is done through the transport authority (NARSA) and requires the original licence, a translation, a medical certificate and your residence card. Check the current procedure with the authority before your first year ends. For the rental itself, nothing changes: expatriates rent from us on their home licence or on the Moroccan one, by the day or by the month.

- Send us your dates, your flight number and the car you want on WhatsApp, or use the booking form on the fleet page.
- We confirm the price. It includes comprehensive insurance (8,000 MAD excess), 24/7 assistance, 200 km per day, a free second driver and free delivery anywhere in Marrakech or at Menara Airport.
- At delivery, show your photocard licence and passport, sign the contract, check the car together with photos, leave the €800 refundable deposit.
- Drive on the right, 60 km/h in town, 100 on main roads, 120 on motorways.
- Return the car at the agreed place and time; the deposit is released after the joint check.

Do I need an international driving permit to rent a car in Morocco?
No, if your licence is in Latin characters (UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia and most others). Yes, or a certified translation, if it is in another script.
Is a UK photocard licence enough without the paper counterpart?
Yes. The photocard alone is accepted. Bring the physical card.
Can I rent with a provisional licence?
No. A full licence is required, and the driver must be at least 21.
Can my partner drive too?
Yes. The second driver is free and shows the same documents at pick-up.
What if my licence expires during the trip?
It must be valid for the whole rental. Renew it before you travel.
