What a rental deposit is, and what it is not
A deposit, or security deposit, is the amount the agency holds during the rental to cover what might remain at your charge at return: the insurance excess after a claim, missing fuel, a fine received during the rental. If the car comes back as it left, the deposit is returned in full. It is therefore not a surcharge, not an advance on the rental and not an insurance: it is a guarantee.
Three points make it particularly important in Morocco:
- Excess buy-out does not exist. The “zero excess” or “super cover” options you may know from Europe are not offered by Moroccan insurers. The excess remains due after an at-fault claim, and only the deposit guarantees it to the agency.
- Fines arrive after you. A fixed radar sends its notice to the agency weeks later; the deposit is what settles it without chasing you abroad.
- Fuel is settled at return. The car is handed over with fuel and must come back at the same level; any difference is deducted from the deposit at pump price.

Three worked examples: a week in a Clio 5
Take a couple renting a Renault Clio 5 for a week, delivered at Menara Airport at 11 pm, returned at the riad, with one of them as second driver. The rate is €40 per day, €280 for the week, all-inclusive.

Renting without a credit card is not renting without a deposit
A large share of the people who search “no deposit” actually want to rent without a credit card, because they travel with a debit card or prefer to pay cash. These are two different questions, and the second has a simple answer with us: yes. The rental and the €800 deposit can be paid by debit card or in cash, in euros or dirhams, at delivery. If you pay the deposit in cash, it is returned in cash at the end, after the check. If you pay by card, the amount is charged and then refunded, or blocked and then released depending on your bank; how long it takes to reappear on your account depends on the bank, not on us.
From the first message to the return: the deposit step by step
- Booking. You send your dates and delivery point on WhatsApp or through the fleet page. We confirm one total price. A 30 % deposit confirms the booking; cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the pick-up time.
- Delivery. Our agent meets you at Menara Airport, at your riad, hotel or the train station, at the agreed time, day or night. You walk around the car together: every mark goes on the check-out sheet, with photos; you keep a copy.
- Payment. You pay the balance of the rental and the €800 deposit, by card or cash. You sign the contract and drive away.

The mistakes that cost part of a deposit, and how to avoid them
- Driving off without a check-out sheet. Without a signed sheet, every scratch at return becomes an argument. Insist on the sheet and take your own time-stamped photos, tyres and windscreen included.
